Student exchanges for Law students between the UPF and Oxford University
The UPF has recently entered an agreement with Oxford University (United Kingdom) under which students from either of those two universities can pursue part of their Law studies in the other. The Agreement was formalised by Josep Joan Moreso , the UPF's Rector, and Timothy Endicott , Fellow in Law and Chair of the Law Board at Oxford University. The UPF is the only Spanish university to have an agreement of this kind with the Faculty of Law of that highly regarded British centre.
The agreement stipulates that by the 2010-2011 academic year at the latest - though earlier implementation is envisaged - and for the duration of the agreement, two students a year from each of these universities can exchange places to pursue their studies in the Faculty of Law in Oxford or the Faculty of Law in the UPF for a period equivalent to one academic year . The task of making the selection of those two students from among the applicants for the programme will fall to the university of the students concerned. While it is not a pre-requisite, the universities will try to arrange the exchanges as part of the European Socrates/Erasmus programme when possible.
UPF students studying at Oxford will study for a Diploma in Legal Studies. Oxford students will join in the third-year studies at the UPF and, after completing the year's studies, will return to their own university to sit for the examinations for their BA in English and Spanish Law (equivalent to a degree or the relevant future qualification in the EHEA). In both cases, the students selected will be expected to have a sufficient command of the language of the university they will be going to - English or Spanish, as the case may be.
The agreement also covers other practical aspects, such as the students' accommodation during the exchange period: Oxford University will arrange lodgings for UPF students in one of its colleges, while the students coming from England will be given lodgings in one of the UPF's residences. Personal maintenance expenses for the exchange period will be the responsibility of the participants in the programme.
