UPF's Department of Economics and Business tops the ranking of Spanish Economics Departments

According to the most commonly used ranking methods, UPF's Department of Economics and Business (DEB) is no. 1, as shown by the study "Publishing performance of Spanish academics: 1970-2004", published in the latest issue of the magazine Spanish Economic Review. Its author, David Rodríguez, is a researcher at the Spanish National Research Council's (CSIC) Institute of Economic Analysis.

The study has established a ranking of the best institutions , departments and researchers on the basis of three well-known methods or criteria, UC3 , BAU and KMS, all of which take account of the scientific production generated. Applying all three methods, the study indicates that UPF's DEB - which started operating in 1991 - tops the ranking for the 1990-2004 period.

In addition to the departments and institutions, the study has also taken into account the production generated by its researchers . Thus, with regard to scientific production, several DEB researchers or researchers with ties to the department appear among the most productive and cited researchers in the Econlit index and the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI ). The following names are included among the first ten places in the study: Fabio Canova, Jordi Galí, Albert Marcet, Andreu Mas-Colell, Ramon Marimon, Massimo Motta, Gilles Saint-Paul and Xavier Sala i Martín.
