GRaduate Network

The Graduate Network brings together departments of six leading universities in Europe (Central European University, European University Institute, Istituto Italiano di Scienze Umane, Institut des Études Politiques de Paris, London School of Economics, and Universitat Pompeu Fabra) that specialize in political and social theory, political economy, comparative politics and sociology, public policy, to name a few. The goal of this exclusive network is to encourage collaborative research between PhD students and participating faculties at network universities, emphasizing multi- and inter-disciplinary approaches to political and social sciences. The network aims to provide opportunities for PhD students to improve their research projects, to learn advanced methodological tools and to practice presenting and discussing academic work.

As it has been well recognized in the previous conferences, a further purpose is to support their student members towards the completion of their PhD projects preparing them at the same time for their academic and research careers.

The first Graduate Network conference was hosted by the European University Institute and the Istituto Italiano di Scienze Umane in Florence in 2007, It served as a first major step for promoting the above outlined goals. The second conference was held at the Central European University in Budapest in 2008, enhancing the institutionalization of the network and proving an opportunity to confirm the dialogue on different methodologies and research strategies in political and social sciences. The third conference will take place in 2010 at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. The 3rd Graduate Network Conference seeks to give the possibility to continue the discussion established in the previous meetings, to present research and methodological improvements of advanced students, and to engage new PhD students of the network universities to present their research designs.
