Teaching goals

The main objective of the qualification is to train multi-skilled, flexible, creative and competitive professionals, able to conceive and design audio, video and multimedia systems, to co-operate with professionals working in related technologies and to take technological decisions based on criteria of cost, quality, safety, time and respect for the principles of the profession.

Graduates in this qualification will be trained to work in the more technical areas of their profession, as well as to perform management responsibility tasks within organisations and to work in the public administration, while being fully aware of the human, economic, social, legal and ethical dimensions involved in working in this profession.

Description of the course

The degree in Audiovisual Systems Engineering has been defined on an integrated basis with the other two degrees taught at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra Polytechnic School: the degree in Computer Engineering and the degree in Telematics Engineering. This means that the first year is the same in all three courses, and there are many shared subjects in the second year. Students studying one degree course can also take subjects in the two other as optional subjects. There is also the opportunity to obtain a dual degree with the degree in Computer Engineering or with the degree in Telematic Engineering.

The syllabus therefore provides firmly-grounded and multidisciplinary training in the field of information and communication technologies, with a specific focus on audiovisual systems and multimedia content. The studies and research undertaken by lecturers on the course enable various areas to be integrated and synergies generated with the existing courses at the UPF, in order to construct a complex whole that integrates technology and creativity in the audiovisual media. This enables the highest levels of teaching excellence to be attained, which are fully up to date with the constant technological breakthroughs and linked to the business sector and to cutting edge research. It also enables students to become integrated within this context, as part of the end of degree project, involving internship in businesses and other activities.

Skills acquired by graduates in Audiovisual Systems Engineering

Graduates in Audiovisual Systems Engineering from the UPF acquire general and specific skills during their studies. The general or transversal skills enhance the personality and can be beneficially applied in professional life in any social or economic field. These include oral and written expression, in Catalan, Spanish and English, and enable graduates to work in interdisciplinary teams, as well as working independently, with high motivation in terms of quality.

The specific skills acquired by our graduates, which are necessary for working in a technological and business environment, will enable them to have a firm understanding of modern technologies and to adapt to future technologies, which are essential skills in an environment that changes as constantly as the computing and telecommunications sector.

Career prospects

The course provides the skills needed in positions of responsibility in the field of information and communication technologies: management, project supervision and development, technical services, commercial services, etc.
