- Research methods applied to language
This course has a three-fold aim. 1) To familiarise students with
epistemological issues in science and research; 2) to introduce
students to research methods applied to language by looking at explanatory
theories, problem solving, data collection, experimental design,
qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and 3) to help students
to actually conduct Research by considering Research as a process
and dealing with it in terms of three basic levels: a) the decision
level (aims, objectives, hypotheses, variables); b) the realization
level ((experimental design, instruments), and execution level (data
collection, analytical techniques; interpretation of results).
- Linguistics and variation

Variación lingüística
In this course the main aim is to introduce the theory of variation
and offer an overall view of the internal and external dimensions
of language variation. Language variation will be examined as an
inherent property of natural language, in terms of phonological,
syntactic, semantic and pragmatic variation, language variation
and change, variation as an analytical method, and sociolinguistic
variation.
