Research fields
The student who is interested in translation studies may focus their research
on the following fields:
theory of translation and translation studies
specific aspects of humanistic and literary, legal and economic, and scientific
and technical translation
criticism, comparison and assessment of translations
history of translations in the Spanish and Catalan spheres
history of reflections on translation
machine translation
audiovisual and multimedia translation
Groups and research projects
This research is based on the following groups and projects:
GRADIT. Translation and discursive argumentation studies group http://www.upf.edu/dtf/
The study is based on a linguistic and cognitive approach to translation
and aims to apply certain linguistic concepts to the analysis of a body
of specialized texts (economic, socio-political and scientific communication
texts) and the respective translations in English, French, German, Spanish
and Catalan.
Within this group, there are two subgroups that have two different areas
of focus:
CEDIT. Translation and discourse group
TAVAT. Audiovisual translation and textual adaptation group
SETAM. Seminar of studies on audiovisual and multimedia translation (thematic

SETAM is a thematic group of the Joan Lluís Vives Institute and
is formed by representatives of the fields of audiovisual and multimedia
translation from the following universities:

Universitat de Vic
The main goal of SETAM is to carry out university research studies in
the field of audiovisual and multimedia translation (AMT) and, additionally,
to offer academic and vocational training as well as forums for the discussion
and exchange of research results and ideas with other persons and research
groups.
Textual coherence, construction of meaning and translation in specialized
(economic, socio-political and scientific communication) texts in English,
French, German, Spanish and Catalan. Funded project. Project code: PB1998-1062-C04-01.

institutions: Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universitat de València,
Universitat de Barcelona. Funding institution: DGES. Duration: from 30
