Research fields
The student who is interested in discourse studies may focus their research
on the following fields:
analysis of discourse (specialized, political, informative, literary,
etc.)
textual genres and typologies
specific aspects of discourse analysis from a contrastive point of view
Groups and research projects
This research is based on the following groups and projects:
"The discourse of politicians in the television genres of interview
and debate". Ministry of Science and Technology. BSO-2001-0771/2001-2004.
Director: Clara Lorda.
Interdisciplinary study (production and reception) of speeches given by
politicians of reference (Spain and France, Catalonia and the Basque Country)
on TV interview and debate programs.
"Discourse and knowledge". Ministry of Science and Technology
(Ramon y Cajal grants). Director: Teun van Dijk.
Within the framework of a new epistemology based on the contributions
of cognitive science and social sciences, a theory of knowledge as forms
of socio-cultural cognition and its link with the contextual functions
and structures of discourse is being developed.
Discourse study thematic network (XED) DURSI: 2000XT0062. Coordinator:
Helena Calsamiglia.
Its goal is to encourage relation and interaction between discourse analysis
research groups, by organizing seminars and conferences. The network currently
has 11 groups (Spain, France and Argentina).

CRITICS-L Network
For ten years there has been an international network for the critical
study of discourse with its own list on the internet and which holds annual
meetings in numerous European cities.
Discourse Study Group (GED)
This is an organization run by the teaching staff attached to the discourse
studies line within the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, which has activities
in the projects, in the doctoral program and in the coordination of the
discourse studies network. Its goal is to consolidate and activate discourse
studies with research initiatives.

This website is for all those people who wish to publish, read and discuss
issues relating to academic discourse in Spanish, either as a first language
or as a foreign language. Its goal is to create a framework where teachers
and students alike can find a common area of action for exchanging ideas,
promoting international meetings, or at least virtual meetings, and make
their work known.
