BIOGRAPHY
Julia
Lopez is Professor of Labor and Social Security Law at the Pompeu
Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain. She did her undergraduate
work in Law at the Complutense University in Madrid. She earned
her doctorate in law at the Complutense University in 1985, where
her Doctoral Thesis received an award for the best Dissertation
presented in Pubic Law that year. She has been a faculty member
in the Law School of the Pompeu Fabra University since 1996. She
teaches labor law, social security law and European and international
labor law. She has been affiliated with the Universities of Rome
and Naples (Italy), Paris-Nanterre II ( France) , the Institute
of European Studies of the Free University of Brussels (Belgium)
and the University of Notre Dame (US). Her publications include
several books she has authored or coauthored as well as edited
books and numerous articles about decentralization and labor law,
family legal policies and equal treatment, immigration and workers
rights . Her most recent publications are " Rethinking euro-rights
for workers in the year of the new currency " in The Year of the
Euro , edited by R.M. Fishman and T. Messina, University of Notre
Dame Press , 2006 ; she has a chapter on " Social Dialogue and
concertation in Social Security in Spain " in a volume about Social
Dialogue in Latin American and Spain , ( forthcoming October 2006)
and she has edited a volume about Derechos laborales y de la Seguridad
Social de los inmigrantes , Consejo General del Poder Judicial
, 2006 to which she contributed an article " Una mirada a los
derechos de los inmigrantes desde el derecho de dignidad ". She
is working now on wage flexibility and worker rights and she is
the coordinator of an international research project about the
ILO Conventions and the judicialization of legal systems sponsored
by the Spanish Ministry of Labor, in which others participants
are from UCLA, Oxford , Catania among others Universities .
