Studies and academic degrees:
Ma. José González is visiting lecturer in the Department of
Political and Social Sciences at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), representative of the
Department of Political and Social Sciences on the Linguistic Commission, and vice-deacon of
Teaching Innovation in Political Sciences and Public Management Studies at the Universitat Pompeu
Fabra.
She was visiting researcher at the Department of Population Studies in 'El Colegio de la
Frontera Norte' (Tijuana, Mexico) and guest scholar at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies (UCSD,
USA) working on the demographic features of families in the USA-Mexican border. In 1995 obtained
the 'Human Capital and Social Mobility' scholarship and moved to the 'European Gender Research
Laboratory' (LSE, UK) to work on the project 'Gender inequalities and the European Regions'. In
1996 initiated the Ph.D. at the European University Institute on the topic of 'Occupational career
and family formation in Spain', and in 2000 joined the Centre for Demographic Studies (Autonomous
University of Barcelona) to work on the European project 'Female Employment and Family Formation in
National Institutional Contexts (FENIC's)' funded under the 5th EC Framework Programme, and 'Les
taux d'activité en Europe du Sud vont-ils augmenter? Pronostics à partir d'une approche
socio-démographique' also supported by DG V and the Generalitat. Currently, she is involved in
different national and international research groups on fertility, family formation and childcare.
Academic qualifications:
Graduate in Geography at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
Masters in Human Geography at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and postgraduate on
'Methods and Techniques for Demographic Analysis'.
Doctor of Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute (Florence).
