Studies and academic degrees:
Luis Ortiz is MA and Ph.D. by the Center for the Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (CEACS) and the Complutense University of Madrid. After getting his BA as Historian, he got a grant to course an MA in Social Sciences at the CEACS, where he subsequently got his Ph.D. In 1995-1996, he was Visiting Research Fellow at the Industrial Relations Research Unit (IRRU) University of Warwick (UK), where he developed a Research Project funded by the 5th Framework Programme of the European Commission (Human Capital and Mobility Programme). The project dealt with the unions reaction to the introduction of new management techniques in the automobile industry. After completing his Ph.D., he taught Comparative Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management at the Department of Industrial Relations of the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE). He has published in the European Journal of Industrial Relations, the Industrial Relations Journal and the International Journal of Comparative Sociology. His research interests initially dealt with the introduction of new management techniques, union studies and industrial relations. Currently, he is researching on the effect of institutions in female labour market activity and the returns of human capital investement at the beginning of the labour market trajectory. He currently teaches 'Sociology of Work', 'Industrial Relations Theory', 'Social Mobility' and 'Inequality and Labour Market Trajectories' in the Labour Studies Degree, at the Pompeu Fabra University. Besides, he coordinates the Research Seminar within the Ph.D. Programme of this departament.
