Riba Romeva, Clara

Studies and academic degrees:

CLARA RIBA ROMEVA has a Degree in Mathematics (UB, 1976) and a PhD in Political Science (UAB, 1995). She has been awarded with a Master in Public Management (UAB, 1992) and a Diploma in Social Sciences Data Analysis and Collection (university of Essex, 1996). She has been working at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where has been teaching Mathematics, Statistics and Applied Statistics Methods to political science students. She presented in 1995 her doctoral thesis, titled Vot dual i abstenció diferencial. Tres aproximacions a l'estudi del comportament electoral a Catalunya (1982-1993) and supervised by Dr. Josep M. Colomer. This was the starting point of her research in political behavior. Since then, she has worked in a wide range of issues related with political behavior, educational management, evaluation of public policies and social exclusion. All the works have in common the interest in the application of quantitative methods to political science analysis. In recent times she has concentrated her activity on the methodological aspects related with survey research. In this aspect, she has done studies with surveys founded by several institutions, she is a member of the team directed by Dr. Mariano Torcal that implements European Social Survey in Spain and she has published some articles about the quality of surveys. She has been awarded with the "Premio AECPA 2003 - Artículo" (Ballart, X. & Riba, C (2002), "Forest Fires: Evaluation of government measures", Policy Sciences, vol. 35, pp. 361-377) and with the "Premi Pallach d'Educació 2000" (Subirats, J. (ed) (2001), Educació, comunitat i govern local. La importància del territori en el paper de l'escola, Diputació de Barcelona, Barcelona).

Research interests:

1. Political behavior. Aspects related with participation and vote, economic voting and the relation about money and politics.
2. Educational management. Aspects related with education, community and territory and about the educative actors in it.
3. Evaluation of public policies. Studies of evaluation of several policies related with ambient issues and management of public spaces.
