University Lecturer at the Department of Economics and Business at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences at UPF since 2011, Senior Research Fellow of the Centre for Research in Health and Economics (CRES) and member of the CRES Government Council, centre that himself co-founded along with Guillem López Casasnovas.
His main research areas of interest include health economics, health management, economic evaluation and public management.
He is Director of the collection of books on "Health Economics and Health Management", 27 titles published by Springer-Verlag and Elsevier Masson. He holds a Master of Science from Purdue University and a BA and a MBA from ESADE. BA and PhD in Economics from the University of Barcelona and has completed doctoral studies in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. He has both national (Ministry of Health and Consumption, Government of Catalonia, St. Pau Hospital) and international (World Health Organization, World Bank) experience in health managment. Former Director of the Master in Health Service Administration and Management jointly organised by the Continuing Education Institute of the UPF and the Gaspar Casal Foundation of Madrid. Former President of the Spanish Society of Public Health and Health Administration (SESPAS) and of the Association of Health Economics (AES), he is also the former Secretary of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA).
