Ferran Sanz (Barcelona, 1951), Professor of Biostatistics and Biomedical Informatics at the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Director of the IMIM-UPF joint Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB, http://grib.imim.es) Vice-rector for Scientific Policy of the UPF from January 2004 to March 2009. Visiting professor at Naples, Düsseldorf and Vienna Universities. Author of more than 100 articles in SCI-indexed journals. Mentor of 18 PhD thesis. Coordinator of eight EC-funded initiatives, as well as a STOA report for the European Parliament. President of the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry from January 2003 to December 2005. Member of the Scientific Committee of the Innovative Medicines Initiative JU (www.imi-europe.org) and academic coordinator of the Spanish Platform Medicamentos Innovadores. Coordinator of the node of Biomedical Informatics of the Spanish Institute of Bioinformatics (INB). Project evaluator for different national and international funding agencies (European Commission, Sweden, Italy, Ireland and Portugal)

 


Research interests:

Biomedical informatics. Discovery of medicines assisted by computer. Modelling of the relationships between molecular structure and biological activity.
