CEXS has two more new ICREA Academia researchers
On the fourth edition of the program, two UPF professors, Eulàlia de Nadal and David Comas, from the department of Experimental and Health Sciences (CEXS) have been recognized as ICREA academia 2011 by the Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats (ICREA). ( Catalan Institution for Advanced Research and Studies)
This award, of 50.000 euros for each candidate, recognizes the excellence in research and the leadership capacity and its main aim is to encourage and hold university professors because it allows them to have prior research upon teaching for a five-year period in a public Catalan university.
Eulàlia de Nadal ( Barcelona, 1972) got her degree in Veterinary medicine (1995) and obtained a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2000) at UAB. She coursed Postdoctoral studies in the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule ( ETH) in Switzerland and at the CEXS-UPF, under the direction of Francesc Posas. From 2008 she is a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology associated professor and co-directs the Cell Signaling Unit at CEXS.
David Comas obtained his PhD in the University of Barcelona. He has made several research placements abroad ( London, Munich, Helsinki) and he joined the UPF in 1998, when the Degree in Human Biology started. As a researcher he is the head of the Biology of the Genomic Diversity within the Evolutionary Biology unit a mixed UPF-CSIC center. His main research line focuses on the analysis of the genome diversity in human populations and its biomedical and evolutionary implications.
Twenty researchers from the UPF are ICREA Academia
In this fourth call, ICREA has designed twelve researchers among all the public Catalan Universities. To be precise, four from the UB, three from the UAB, two in the UPF and the UPC and, finally, one in the URV. By knowledge area, the awarded professors belong to the fields of Experimental Sciences, Mathematics, Humanities, Biomedicine, Social Sciences and Technology.
Up to now, in this four editions, a total of 107 researchers have become part of the ICREA Acadèmia program and twenty of them belong to the UPF. The rest of the Catalan universities have 36 ( UB), 28 (UB) 10 ( UPC) and 13 more among the UdL, the URV and the UdG.
The funding means and important boost to go on researching and an annual import of 25.000 € approximately for each of the selected candidates plus a 20.000 euros award for the university in which the researcher works, mainly addressed to contract teaching and assisting staff and 5000 € more for the program private expenses. Therefore, the total cost for researcher each year is 50.000 € .
