The borrowing service offers you the possibility of borrowing documents from the Library /CRAI (Learning and Research Resources Center) of the UPF for a certain time.
This is a single service which means you can request the documents you need irrespective of the Library/CRAI site where they are located and in most cases you can collect them from and return them to at any site.
To use the service, all you need is your UPF card or other document identifying you as a user (member of the UPF community).
See the tutorial My account: borrowing documents
You can borrow documents:
During opening hours at the Ciutadella Library/CRAI. Remember that after 9.00 p.m. (8.00 p.m. from Monday to Friday except public holidays during the Christmas and summer vacation periods), you have to use the self-service machine for which you will need your card to have a bar code.
During opening hours until 9.00 p.m. (8.00 p.m. from Monday to Friday except public holidays during the Christmas and summer vacation periods), at the Poblenou Library/CRAI and Mar University Campus Library.
You can return borrowed documents during the opening hours of the Library/CRAI. Remember that you can also carry out some activities from outside the Library/CRAI.
How many documents and for how long
The number of documents that you can borrow at the same time varies depending on the type of user.

(*) In the case of Interuniversity master's degrees, students are considered to be users of the university where they are registered. Accordingly:
- If registered at the UPF, they are deemed users of the UPF and are subject to borrowing conditions established for UPF postgraduate students.
- If registered at another university, they are deemed users of that other university and at the UPF they are considered to be external. In this case they can use the PUC service (Consortium borrowing agreement betwen the institution members of the Consorci de Biblioteques Universitàries de Catalunya (CBUC)).
Loans can be renewed up to four times if they have not been requested by another user.

You have two possibilities:

|
Once you have had four renewals, if you still want to borrow the document and it has not been reserved by another user, you can formalize a new loan. In this case, you have to go to the lending counter with the document and your UPF card or other identification document.
Documents can be returns using the returns box located at the different sites, during opening hours of the Library/CRAI, or at the counter, until 9.00 p.m. (8.00 p.m. from Monday to Friday except public holidays during Christmas and summer vacation periods).
Remember that the latest return date is shown on the reminder provided with each document that you borrow. You can also check this date using the catalog: choose the My Account option, introduce your details and go to the section showing the documents you have borrowed.
As users of this service, you have the obligation to return the documents at the end of the loan term, unless a renewal has been authorized. If you do not comply, you will be unable to borrow any other document while the first document is overdue.
Furthermore, once the overdue document is returned, you will be the borrowing service will be suspended for you for the number of days indicated below:Normal loan: 4 days per document and day overdue
Restricted loan: 7 days per document and day overdue
The days of suspension are applied in calendar days.
If the borrowing service has been suspended in your case because you have returned documents late, you can check how long the suspension applies by using the catalog, My Account.
If the documents are not returned because they have been lost or stolen, or are returned in bad condition, you will have to replace them with other copies of the same edition. In the case of out-of-print documents, you will have to replace them with copies with similar characteristics. Until you do so, you may not borrow any other documents.
If you would like to borrow a document that another user has borrowed, you can reserve it, so that you can have it once the other user has returned it.
To do so, from the catalog you have to select the Copies button of the document you are interested in, click on the Reserve icon that appears at the top of the screen and introduce your UPF Card Number and the password to confirm your reservation.
You can reserve the document if:
there is only one copy and it has been taken out
if there are several copies and none of them is available
The Library/CRAI will keep the documents you have reserved for three days after the other user has returned the document.
You can reserve documents from the catalog that are provided to another user as well as documents that are available.
Note that the documents had been available the next day you have made your reservation, while the documents provided to the other user you would have when it returns.
How to reserve:
Once the document is ready for pick up you will receive an email that will inform you. From this date you will have four days to pick up the loan14 days documents, and three days for the rest of loan documents.
As an exception, the documents located on GEPA - Dipòsit must be requested through interlibrary loan form, incorporating your personal information and documents requested. Before orderingthrough interlibrary loan service, make sure no other copies are available in the UPF or in CCUC (Union Catalogue of the Universities of Catalonia), and where appropriate request these copies as the first choice.
